Common Signs of Endometriosis You Should Know

About 10% of women in India have endometriosis, but many of them are unaware of its effects. It can be simple to ignore or confuse the symptoms of endometriosis for something less serious because they frequently are similar to regular menstrual pain. Unfortunately, with an average diagnosis time of about eight years, many people are still unaware that they have this condition. However, if you find you have this condition, consult a leading gynaecologist to get endometriosis treatment in Mumbai.

Through this blog, we will discuss what endometriosis is, the common signs and symptoms of endometriosis and its four stages. So, let’s get started.

What is Endometriosis?

Even if you have heard of endometriosis, you might not fully know what it is. The endometrium is the lining of your uterus. During your menstrual cycle, the lining typically thickens before shedding. The endometrium starts to grow outside of the uterus in endometriosis. It surrounds the external reproductive organs, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus. When the endometrium sheds, the parts of it that are situated outside of the uterus find no way to go away. This can lead to pain and can affect your sexual health.

What are the Common Signs of Endometriosis?

The signs of endometriosis change based on where the endometrium grows. Even mild endometriosis, though, can cause symptoms that make your life more challenging. Therefore, any individual experiencing signs of endometriosis should seek help from a gynaecologist in Mumbai right away and get treated. The following are signs of endometriosis:

1. Chronic Pelvic Pain

If you experience pelvic discomfort for no apparent cause, you may have endometriosis. This pain may worsen over time and may even surpass menstrual cramps in intensity.

2. Severe Cramping During Menstruation

Menstrual cramps are common among most women. Extremely painful menstrual cramps that interfere with normal routine are common in women with endometriosis.

3. Painful Sex

When your endometrium grows outside of your uterus or around other reproductive organs, sexual intercourse may cause pain. It could be very uncomfortable or painful for a lot of women.

4. Severe Bleeding

If you experience bleeding between periods, you may have endometriosis.

5. Painful Bowel or Urination

Urinating or having a bowel movement can be painful if your endometrium is interfering with the function of your bladder or bowel, both of which are located close to your uterus. During your menstrual cycle, the discomfort may be worse.

6. Unable to conceive

For some women, the inability to conceive is one of the most significant indicators of endometriosis. The reason you haven't been able to conceive could be that your endometrium's overgrowth is making it harder for your egg to meet a sperm. Alternatively, the sperm or egg may be damaged by the excess tissue.

7. Exhaustion

Nearly half of people with endometriosis experience fatigue, which is frequently accompanied by stress, depression, or insomnia. The immune system being activated by inflammation may be the cause of this fatigue.

What are the Four Stages of Endometriosis?

The stages of endometriosis are determined by where, how big, and how thick the tissues are that are growing outside the uterus. The following are its stages:

  • Stage 1: Endometriosis causes inflammation in and around the pelvis.

  • Stage 2: Light lesions form on the ovarian walls as a result of endometriosis.

  • Stage 3: During this phase, implants are deeply set in the ovaries and on the walls of the pelvis.

  • Stage 4: The fourth stage of endometriosis is severe. In addition to deep implants on the ovaries and pelvic walls, it may also include sores on the bowels and fallopian tubes, depending on the patient's condition.
